Jordin Sparks Vocal Trouble

It is now fairly confirmed that Jordin Sparks, the reigning American idol, has been diagnosed with an acute vocal cord hemorrhage, meaning her vocal chords are bleeding and there is a significant chance of permanent damage. She will need to go on complete vocal rest (ie no singing and almost no speaking either) for several months, and laser micro-surgery is a possibility (Julie Andrews is perhaps the most famous singer to undergo vocal surgery. It is well known to have ended in disaster for her carreer). Rumor is that Sparks contracted this problem when she sang while suffering from Bronchitis.

The terribly sad part is, Sparks’s carreer was just beginning to take off. After winning the idol crown last year, Jordin released an album that has been certified Gold and two Platinum singles. Her latest single, “No Air,” is currently ranked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 – the highest peak of any single from any idol’s debut album ever (yes, that DOES include Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood).

Sparks was due to begin a tour with Alicia Keys next week, and although dates haven’t been officially cancelled, rumor is they will be shortly. Sparks has already cancelled a performance she was scheduled to give last night.

Keep this girl in your thoughts and prayers. She is on eighteen years old, and doesn’t deserve any of the misfortune that has been laid upon her in the past several weeks.
