Mp3.com, which is offering free streaming of Justin’s album, “Holly”, this week, describes him as “the guts of Ray LaMontagne and the soul of Lauryn Hill.” That’s a serious comparison, because those two are (in my opinion) two of the most excellent songwriters and lyricists alive today. I have to agree that Justin Nozuka is quite a talent, though. Listening to the first couple tracks on his album, I was struck my similarities to some other big acts as well. While his tone conjures images of a more earnest Justin Timberlake, the way his voice wraps around a riff is more reminiscent of Jason Mraz. The music is a comfortable blend of acoustic rock and straight pop that is easy on the ears and still instantly engaging. Album review coming soon. Listen to something.
